Koulutuksen kuvaus

Master’s Programme in Health Business Management is a joint programme with students from both Engineering, Business and from Health Care and Social Services.

A multidisciplinary approach is needed in finding innovative solutions and business models to renew the sector and provide the services economically and efficiently, yet maintaining high quality and a human-oriented scope in all decisions and activities.

A special feature comes from the fact that this Master’s degree programme invites students from diverse backgrounds, professionally, educationally, as well as culturally. Business graduates, engineering graduates, as well as the largest group, graduates from Health Care and Social Services, will jointly tackle the various problem-solving situations and learning tasks. Sharing everyone’s expertise becomes a value added.

Internationalization is expanding. Therefore, the HBM Master’s students will be offered an environment to practice and enhance their international and communication skills in a very multicultural group of peers, staff and faculty. Lectures, seminars, workshops as well as learning materials and outputs are all in English.

The core of the advanced professional studies in the HBM comes from for instance: Health Business Economics and Business Models; Strategy, Management and Leadership and Service Innovations and Design. Alternative advanced studies can be picked from a set of choices, related to sustainable leadership, customer relations, or management accounting, all linked to health care business and organizations.

Sufficient RDI competence is provided at an early stage of the studies, as it is needed in planning and implementing perhaps the most rewarding part of the studies, namely the Master’s Thesis, 30 ECTS. More often than not, the development task comes from and is implemented in the organization in which the Master’s student is employed. The Master’s Thesis process starts early enough so that measurable changes or improvements can be identified.

Pedagogiset toimintatavat

The curriculum work was done as a joint effort of the Master's Degree Programme in Advanced Clinical Practice, Master`s Degree Programme of Management in Social and Health Care, Master's Degree Programme in Business Informatics and Master's Degree Programme in Industrial Management of Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences. This resulted in two “sister programmes”, both titled as Master's Degree programme in Health Business Management: We have a 60 ECTS programme for engineers leading to the degree Master of Health Business Management and a 90 ECTS programme for the Bachelors of Business Administration and for the Social and Health Care professionals leading to the degree Master of Health Business Management. Research and Development Skills, Health Business Economics and Business Models, Service Innovations and Design, Strategy, Management and Leadership, Safety and Quality Management, Advanced Accounting, Customer Relations and Operations and Sustainable Leadership have been updated for the 2015 Curriculum. Also the Master’s Thesis process has been renewed: there is closer interaction with and integration to the methodology courses in order to get the Master’s Thesis started early enough to reach measurable results during the study time. The Master’s students themselves, as well as the Health Business Management alumni and business companies and consultants, represent a significant source of insight into curriculum development, which is appreciated. Also, the team of Principal and Senior Lecturers from three competence centers of Metropolia participates actively in continuous development.
